Departmental Complexities: A Life Hack, a Use Case

I started my Government job at a High school as a Computer Lab Assistant at a pay scale 7. This was a milestone for people like me believing in oneself and no connections or self struggle. The appointment was contractual for a period of three years. After some time the posts were regularized and I also was considered as a permanent employee. When I compared my work to my job description I was shocked that I was treated by the head as a full pledged teacher. I was teaching maths and science to ninth teth and eight class. Although I was an IT lab assistant and my job description depicted my responsibilities as a ministerial post only to maintain the lab.sterial post only to maintain the lab.Moreover, people called me, "Ustaz Jee", the then respectable term for a teacher. I felt some unesyness to hear that because I thought that I am not an actual teacher considering my job description and post title, " Computer Lab In charge". The IT term was new in schools and the study of computer in Pakistan was at that time after matric i.e, ten years of education. In the private schools computer was introduced at primary level for attracting the students to the private institute. Thus the then government launched a project of selecting five districts in each province to be equiped with computer labs and computer study was initiated at matric after eighth year of education. The service structure and job orientation problems were discussed with high officials including provincial assembly members to renovate the IT infrastructure to enhance this sector. But no one was in the mood to give this technology a proper place in our educational institutions. The world was changing and in our country, there was a stalemate of ideas. The director of the project through his personal efforts produced some space for continuing IT education at school level. But after all the service structure did not approve by the educational authorities because there was a conflict with the finance department to produce budgeted options for this. After seven years of stagnant service structure for IT staff at education I optioned to change my job and thus was selected as a primary school teacher at the education department. I, therefore, now was a true teacher in the sense of post and job description. Although I have worked for more than eleven years as a teacher at different institutions private and public from 1998 to 2011.
